Hope and Anchor are three wonderfully talented people from Asheville, North Carolina who play primarily acoustic but incorporate a wide range of instrumentation into their folk oriented songs. Hope and Anchor’s music is compelling and story like, no doubt inspired by the somewhat fairytale-esque nature of their surroundings. Like summer in the south, their songs are at times sleepy and kind of quiet, but, unlike August in the Carolinas, never stifling or oppressive. The record attracts listeners immediately with a driving first track. From there listeners are treated to sweet strings and a thoughtful and dynamic arrangement of instruments ranging from a piano to a banjo to lap steel. Vocals do not take any sort of backseat on this record as Tasha and Sarahbrown meld their voices together as well as play them against one another.
