ENGLISH IMPORT - Following a multitude of low-key releases, which culminated in the much talked about album (‘Oh Wow!’) on leftfield electronica label ADAADAT, the evolution of these trans-national kids takes another significant step forward with the new Cutting Pink with Knives album, ‘Populuxxe’ out on the 27th September on Holy Roar (Gallows, Rolo Tomassi, Chronicles of Adam West). Erasing another chunk of noise from their sound, CPWK’s have injected a variety of influences from 80’s rock, hip-hop, pop and dance music to arrive at a sound that is undeniably their own.

If it’s good enough for Jello Biafra, as he proclaims on the classic Dead Kennedy’s track ‘I Love Short Songs’, it should be good enough for all of us. ‘Populuxxe’ is FILLED with short, very short songs. With no track past the 2 and a half minute mark, these are songs designed to grab, attract and shake you instantly, throw up a million punk-dance-electro-hardcore-metal-funk ideas into the air to scatter themselves across the listeners conscious. Unquestionably pop, enviably concise, Cutting Pink with Knives lodge themselves deep within your cranium without wasting a single second.

Having played with everyone from An Albatross to Daughters to DJ Scotch Egg to Rolo Tomassi to Trencher to Hair Police to Kate Nash to Optimist Club to 65daysofstatic to Meet Me In St Louis to Genghis Tron to Part Chimp to the Paper Chase to some crazy hippy squat in Leytonstone, this is a band who have proved that they can’t be pigeonholed or grouped in with one particular ‘scene’ or ‘movement’ anymore. Recorded once again with John Hannon (Hundred Reasons, No Comply, Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly!, Trencher) at No Recording Studio, ‘Populuxxe’ is an album that will only go on to cement and raise this reputation.
